Council Room Rental

The Square House is a distinguished historic home and landmark, originally built in 1730, and one of Rye’s most significant surviving colonial era structures. At the heart of the house is the Council Room.

Designated on the National Register of Historic places, the Square House offers a unique and intimate venue for small, meaningful events. The Council Room is available to accommodate a variety of special occasions, including private gatherings, lectures, and commemorative events, allowing guests to experience history in an authentic and memorable setting.

We provide guidance to help you plan your event in a historic home, ensuring both an enjoyable experience and the preservation of this important landmark for future generations.

Rental Details

  • Rental Fee

    • $150 for the first hour

    • $50 for each additional hour (up to a maximum of 4 hours)

  • Payment: Rental payment is due prior to or at the time of the event

  • Availability: During regular museum hours only (Tuesday through Friday 11am-4pm, Saturdays 10am-4pm)

  • Age Requirements: Adults only

  • Please Note: Rental does not include a museum tour

What to Expect

  • Available is the original Rye Council Room table. We can supply additional 2 large folding tables, large round table, or small square folding table upon request.

  • Permanent in the room is the 7 green council room chairs and additionally 6 wooden chairs. We can supply an additional 20 white folding chairs upon request.

  • Please note that as an active museum with changing exhibits there may be instillations on the walls that will be there during your event. If there is something you were wanting to display during the event please consult with us before booking to see if we can accommodate.

  • Table decor and food will not be supplied by the Rye Historical Society. Please clean up what was brought in. We have a kitchen available for storage space and clean up.
