Summer Break Program - Time Travelers: Revisiting History through Theater

  • Rye Historical Society 1 Purchase Street Rye, NY, 10580 United States (map)

Who: Welcome Time Travelers! Please join the Rye Historical Society for an exciting week embarking on an exhilarating journey back to the early 19th century, when our nation flourished with optimism and a resolute commitment to democracy. Step into the shoes of the people of Rye during the Colonial, Revolutionary Periods, and early 1800s to learn about day to day activities, including sewing, cooking, working, and playing.

Then get your quills and ink ready to write your own theater script about life in the past. Create a script with historical figures, such as Marquis de Lafayette. In addition, you will have the opportunity to craft your own stage props and create your own costumes. At the end of this fun exploration, showcase your acting chops in a final performance for your parents and friends!

In partnership with The American Friends of Lafayette Bicentennial, the Rye Historical Society will host a vivid historical reenactment at the Square House and Village Green on Sunday Aug 18th. We'll celebrate Major General Lafayette’s triumphant return tour to America, with a special focus on his visit to the Square House Inn & Tavern. For those who would like to participate, the skit during this program will be showcased during this momentous event in our community!
