Description: The American Friends of Lafayette Bicentennial celebration commemorates Major General Lafayette’s return tour to America, including his lunch at the Square House. The Square House, now part of the Rye Historical Society and serving as a museum, is one of few stops from his NY tour that still stands.

Highlights:

  • Lafayette's lunch at the Square House, where he was joined by his son George Washington Lafayette.

  • Lafayette arrived via carriage travel, while his son reportedly traveled from New York to Rye on horseback to meet him.

Tentative Schedule:

  1. Proclamations welcoming Lafayette (portrayed by an actor).

  2. Actor portraying Lafayette to speak for approximately 15 minutes, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

  3. Timed Tour of the Square House Museum where Lafayette dined. Due to space limitations, attendees will be divided into groups of 12.
